Three Months Post Bariatric Surgery

Hello, dear readers! It has been three months since I embarked on my bariatric surgery journey, and I wanted to share my progress with you. So far, it's been an incredible ride with many ups and downs, including a 30-pound weight loss. However, along with the exciting changes, I've also encountered a few unexpected challenges – one of which is hair loss and the other, the struggle with body dysphoria. In this post, I'll delve into the highs and lows of my journey and how I'm dealing with these issues.

The Weight Loss Journey

The last three months have been a whirlwind of emotions, lifestyle changes, and new habits. I've successfully shed 30 pounds, bringing my total weight loss to 125 pounds since I started this life-altering journey. It's an accomplishment I'm immensely proud of. I can feel the difference in my body, and my health has improved significantly. My energy levels are up, and my mobility has improved, making it easier to engage in activities I used to shy away from.

The Reality of Hair Loss

One of the less glamorous aspects of significant weight loss after bariatric surgery is hair loss. It's not something that everyone experiences, but it's a common occurrence, and I, too, have been affected. Losing hair can be a significant source of stress and anxiety. At times, I've found myself questioning whether the weight loss was worth it. The truth is, it's essential to remember that hair loss is temporary. It's often a result of the sudden change in your body's nutritional intake and typically stabilizes after a few months. In the meantime, consider trying different hairstyles, using hair-thickening products, and seeking support from others who've been through the same experience.

Battling Body Dysmorphia

While the physical changes are evident, what's not always apparent is the emotional and psychological toll that bariatric surgery can have. I've been struggling with body dysmorphia, a condition in which you perceive your body differently from how it truly appears. This is a common struggle for many post-surgery individuals. I often look in the mirror and still see my old self, despite the significant weight loss. It's a constant battle, but I'm working on it. Seeking the help of a mental health professional and connecting with support groups has been invaluable in managing this aspect of my journey.

The Importance of Support

Throughout this journey, I've come to realize that support from friends, family, and others who've undergone bariatric surgery is crucial. Sharing my experiences and seeking advice and encouragement has helped me stay on track, especially during the tough moments.

Conclusion

My journey three months post-bariatric surgery has been transformative, challenging, and, at times, overwhelming. I've celebrated my remarkable weight loss while grappling with the realities of hair loss and body dysmorphia. What's most important is to remember that these are just phases in the journey, and they too shall pass. I remain committed to my path to better health and well-being, and I'm excited about the changes that lie ahead. So, to anyone considering bariatric surgery or currently on a similar journey, know that you're not alone, and the challenges you face are all part of the process. Embrace your successes and keep moving forward with confidence and determination.
